I got my dual processor system set up and running.. I go to boot and I get an error with windows 2k saying inaccessable boot device.
My hdd setup is this. I have 3 hard drives.
ide0/disk1 linux
ide0/disk2 windows2k
ide1/disk1 linux (various files that I use)
ide2/disk1 DVD burner
ide3/disk1 Cd/rw

I got a new motherboard and its a MSI K7D Master with dual MP 2600's

Any ideas? Linux does boot fine, I just need to change the setup of my /etc/fstab for the new setup Smile

Is that the exact error? Or is there an error number?

I dont have the exact error. The screen looks just like the Physical Dump of Memory Screen. And it says "Inaccessable Boot Device".

I did find something from google that I will try.
Basicly its boot from the Install CD and do a repair. I think It could be because chaning motherboards and chipsets could have done it.

Hopefully that is all I need to do.

Yes, changing mobo's and chipsets will definantley cause a Stop error [the blue screen with a lot of numbers and such] in windows 2000...
Also, if you can reproduce that error, write down the error number and google it or search Microsoft's Knowledge database, they usually have the problem associated with the error number...

Yea.. I will do that.. And I will also try to see what happens when I do a repair from the setup..

http://www.duxcw.com/faq/win/move2K.htm

That like said to remove all the devices. How dangerous do you think that is if Im moving to a different system

Also I dont know if I said this. Im moveing from a 1 processor on a Gigabit mother Board to my Dual Processor Mother Board. And its easy to reproduce the error just boot up in my new system. Smile

Hmmm...
Never thought of removing all the devices, sounds like it works though. Although i still have some doubts as to whether it would work with a totally new dual proc / motherboard. Let me know if it does, ill be very suprised!! Shocked
How dangerous is it you ask? I dont see why it would be dangerous at all....are you talking about losing your data type of dangerous?

Yea I was talking about fscking up the system enough to force me to have to do a reinstall. Im gonna try a repair first of all and then do the remove all devices. If I post again after after 11:00 CST (US) you will know it worked Smile

Ok I finialy got it up and neither of the methods worked.

What I ended up having to do was this
1) boot from install cd.
2) chose to go to the install section. It saw I had 2k already installed, and It asked if I wanted to repair. I selected yes.
Waited for the repair to finish.
3) reboot.

if you have a new motherboard/proc (especially switching from 1 to 2), thats likely to really mess with win2k... format the drive and install it fresh. If you need anything off of it, just stick the drive in another system and grab the stuff, or boot into linux on that comp and get what you want
