|
|
| Quote: |
One of the largest difficulties in migrating away from Windows to Linux is the lack of comparable software. Newbies usually search for analogs of Windows software for Linux, and advanced Linux-users cannot answer their questions since they often don't know too much about Windows . This list of equivalents / replacements / analogs of Windows software in Linux is based on our own experience and on the information from the visitors of this page (thanks!).
This table is not a static - new programs can be added both to left and to right sides, and it is not fact that right column will be filled immediately. In the future we plan to migrate this table to the PHP/MySQL engine, so visitors could add the program themselves, vote for analogs, add comments, etc.

For the table go here :

Dan.M suggested adding this additional site to the one above, he indicated that this site is "more thorough and much more up-to-date"

That's a truly excellent list, thanks for posting this.
I've always wondered if there was something like this, but thought such a god-send couldn't exist
Now I know...I always have this problem as Linux programs tend to have such weird names (GIMP anyone?)

That is the best and most complete Windows to Linux list I have ever seen and suggest everyone look, print, or bookmark it. Yes, its that good.

Counter-strike works very well under WineX. I've been able to switch all my gaming over to Linux: Unreal Tournament, UT 2003, Quake 3, Counter-strike, etc.

Rosegarden is a fantastic peice of software, I'm surprised you haven't seen it before _Mhz
It's been reviewed in all the Linux mags and they've had a stand at both the recent Linux expo's I've been to.
It's very well regarded in the music world

My only question for these midi-sequencer or cakewalk like programs, is if it works withouth ALSA, cousa I think I don't use ALSA for the sound, I use the kernel module.
