I currently provide an in-home PC repair/support/ tutition service. I'm expanding into doing Macs too. For PC work the tools I make most use of include Avast, Spybot, Adaware, Crucial Scanner, HijackThis CCleaner and Netsh.

What are the best equivalent Mac tools?

i'm not sure there are equivalents to the likes of adaware, hijjackthis and spybot for the mac really, there's never been the need - most possibly we'll see these types of applications appearing in development - which is a good thing i suppose.

Maintenance applications such as Dispkeeper and Techtool are handy even more handy is the free IceClean wich is a uniix base tool to keep you mac tip top.

None of the things that your Windows utilities protect you from are necessary on a Mac running OS X. That is because of the way permissions are handled none of that mal-ware can get installed. OS X also defragments itself automagically. There really isn't any preventative measures that are needed!
Now, there are exceptions to the above, there is a Flash vulnerability that Adobe needs to fix, there is a famous porn site DNS redirect that you have to install yourself to cause trouble. But the Mac is largely free of the mal-ware that afflicts the Windows world.
That said, any hard drive can die, you need a backup plan for your data. There are emergency repair programs like TechTool (as ianm79 mentioned) and Disk Warrior. But those really won't do preventative maintenance although they can be life savers if a disk does die.
