Unless you want to install a complete version of Mac OS 9, then boot from the CD and follow the instructions. You'll then need to tell the computer which start up disk to use as you'll have two system folders - Mac OS X and Mac OS 9.

If this doesn't help, then try searching Apple's knowledge base as it's full of good info.

Easiest is to contact the seller...I did and now everything is automatic as it should be. I find OS 9 has some advantages lost in OS X, especially to run good programs that need not to be updated; good enough is better than reinventing the wheel.
