chipsets to advoid the 810 family, most now are obselete and will not run labour intensive graphics in games or on sites. Evil or Very Mad These have now been replaced to cut costs on the new machines with the antiquated 530 SIS chip, although this is far better than the 810 series, they are still not powerful enough to run the new line of graphics.

Cheap alternative is one of the Nvidea(sp) 32mb graphic cards which can be brought for as little as £25.(shop around and check motherboard can take it) This card runs fairly decently most games including the intensive full Sim collection.
If you go by way of the graphic cards make sure you disable the chipset first or you will have problems 10 fold.
The SIS chip set comon problem with burning out, although it is a more stablechip, the next generation is the 645, which is heavily supported by Gigabytes motherboards(warning this motherboard is very temperamental Evil or Very Mad )

Site below may give you pointers and clues as not what to buy.

It depends if you have an AGP slot on your motherboard or you need an old PCI card.

If you have an AGP slot get something like the ATI Rage 128 PRO if you don't play games (around £20-25) or something like the TNT2 or the Geforce 2MX if you are more into games (about £30-£45)

Do you want an all-in-one motherboard? Or you going to go upmarket a bit and go for seperate components?

If you are going all-in-one I'd recommend the PCChips, fairly cheap and pretty good quality components.

If you want seperate go for something like Abit/Epox/ASUS.

If you decide to go for one of the other let us know and we'll recommend what is best to get.
